Ladies, are you sick and tired of hearing a deafening boom of a crunch when you go in to enjoy a tasty nacho cheese flavored Dorito? Do you fret of having those terrible neon orange stains leftover on your fingers from eating an entire bag of those artificially flavored triangles? Well worry no more! PepsiCo has announced that they are thinking of making Doritos just for us ladies!
Ok, in all seriousness, this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I personally don’t mind being loud when I am eating a whole bag of delicious nacho cheesy goodness and of course when anyone eats Doritos you’re bound to get some residue on your fingers. PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi said, “As you watch a lot of the young guys eat the chips, they love their Doritos, and they lick their fingers with great glee, and when they reach to the bottom of the bag they pour the little broken pieces into their mouth”. Seems understandable, right? But as a woman, I can say that I also enjoy pouring the remaining bottom-of-the-bag chips into my mouth when I’m done with a bag of Doritos. Nooyi also had this to say about how women feel about the cheesy treat, “Women would love to do the same, but they don’t. They don’t like to crunch too loudly in public. And they don’t lick their fingers generously and they don’t like to pour the little broken pieces and the flavor into their mouth”. I don’t know what public polls she took or if she collected data at all, but I am a woman who doesn’t really care what people think of my eating habits. Nooyi also said that this isn’t really a matter of having certain Doritos for men and others for women, but it’s a question of “are there snacks for women that can be designed and packaged differently?” Um, what? Doritos are my personal favorite chips and I would never not buy them because of the packaging. That iconic red bag is something that I remember from my childhood (my dad is also a huge fan of Doritos) and I even got a family size bag for my birthday from my uncle one year. Even if Doritos were to change their packaging, women would still probably buy the original bag.
As a word of closing from one Doritos fan to others, eating the occasional bag of delicious cheesy flavored goodness is something that shouldn’t be messed with. I’m all for new flavors and colors and whatnot, but changing the texture for women is just a bit ridiculous.
Keep it cheesy IC.
